Oct 2017 XC90 T8 with similar occasional power flat spot issue on takeoff. In with MD now for full service and they’re checking ERAD codes. Await their feedback. Outside of warranties. Bought in UK and imported to Ireland in 2020. 58k miles on clock.

Did any of the irish members manage to get any coverage up to 5 years? (Car will be 5 years in Oct 2022 so hopeful MD will provide some level of cover). Alternatively I wonder could it be covered by Volvo UK somehow given it was a UK import.

My XC60 T8 (Oct 2017) has started playing up. It goes into the local dealer on Wednesday. The motor sometimes works, sometimes doesn't and occasionally knocks. the electric fuel gauge on the dash disappears when it struggles then reappears when it recovers. I'll post what the outcome is.

The garage has confirmed the ERAD is at fault, they have offered the 50% off that Volvo have offered. Not satisfied with this and have taken it up with Volvo. This part should not have failed at 36,000 miles. The fact they have had to improved it shows it was a faulty design to start with and was unfit for purpose. It's also dangerous in that when pulling out into traffic you don't know if it will go or not. This is not reasonable wear and tear but poor design on the part of the manufacturer which should be totally down to them to fix.

Default XC90 T8 Test Drive

Hello All

I did post this same message on another related thread brfore I found this newer one, sorry if anyone has seen it already!

I would like to buy a 2022 XC90 T8, I always loved the look of them and had my first test drive today. I was blown away by how comfortable the seats are and how great the suspension is compared to my current BMW X5.

I digress, the test drive car was a 2022 Ultimate with the Polestar upgrade. First thing I noticed was the battery was at zero miles on the clock. You would think the dealer would make sure that the battery was flippin' charged, grrrr.
Still the salesman selected 'charge' from the menu and the engine started. I selected B to max the battery charging regeneration.
Now heres the part where I was gobsmacked, I planted my boot at the roundabout having been going for about a minute, the car seemed hesitant then the engine cut in very abruptly, gave the car a violent lurch and took off. Not impressed.
Didnt seem smooth at the take off in hybrid mode either.
Gave the car back after 40 minutes, salesman too busy to catch up with me so I left.....
Really like the car, but can any of the T8 owners say that what I describe is normal- or does that car have this defect that so many of you describe already, given its not done 1000 miles yet?

I test drove a BMW 745e, that was REALLY smooth, genuinely did not know whether the engine was contributing or not, really beautifully smooth and very powerful. I would have expected the volvo XC90 T8 to have smooth power delivery like the BMW I tried?

The transition is indeed clunky sometimes going from EV mode to EV+ICE - seems to try to catch up with itself. I presume the XC90 you tested must be on air suspension because gen 2 XC90s ride like donkey carts.

Legacy from the Mk1 XC90 - I raised the same issue with Volvo nearly 20 years ago with my first XC90.
Had the same issue with my second one also, so it's not specific to the T8 engine.
It can be and has been a scare when trying to pull out into traffic from a junction quickly. You know your previous car could do this, but it is a "bit of a surprise" when your shiny new Volvo can't.

The hesitancy has been discussed in this forum since, but Volvo don't seem to have addressed the issue.

Mine isn't on air and the ride is sublime, it is on 19s though with lots of lovely battery weight down low.

I have noticed a strange issue with ERAD in my V90 (2019 model). 3 times within last month, during normal driving, I felt like a "knock" and then the electric drive became unavailable. Turning off and on the engine makes the things work fine again. Anyone experienced the same issue?

Yes, my XC90 T8 has done that a couple of times.

"Sublime"? While I absolutely respect your opinion, I can only assume your experience of quality cars and sublime ride quality is limited. I've driven many models of XC90 and have yet to experience one that rides anywhere nearly as smoothly as a 1990s Citroen Xantia - let alone a truly comfortable car. A run-of-the-mill Ford Mondeo rides much more comfortably than any SPA XC90 and transmits much less bump-thump to the cabin. "Bearable" is how I'd describe the ride quality of any SPA XC90 - no where near "Sublime" like my many Range Rovers, Jag XJ6s Jag XJ8s, Opel Senator, Citroen CX, Citroen C6 and I'm intentionally keeping the bar low because the XC90 cannot compete with truly comfortable cars at any level - not even close. Sublime? No.
