Hipsters? Hamsters? What's the difference?

The difference is a hamster is still interesting after 10 minutes!

Joking aside, it's a strange breed we have on our hands in the younger generation. However given Bicycle Boys comments about it being the counter-culture vehicle of choice, there is hope for other big saloons to have a similar renaissance too. It would seem any large saloon that doesn't necessarily have credentials that would please Gertcha Thornybum (Greta Thunberg in case anyone missed it first time round) might be fair game for the hipsters.

Talking of which, i'm no fashionista but i think you can still buy trousers known as hipsters John

Dave, as far as I understand, there is no connection between Toyota Supras or Volvo 244s becoming trendy, and any other big saloon having a renaissance. Modern fashion is pretty random I think, although guided by internet influencers. The next in-vehicle may be a Renault van, a Thwaites dumper or a Honda CD175.

:-)

Hepcat -> Hippy -> Hipster
Same thing, different decades.

Not a Thwaites dumper, so yesterday, the Liner , is today’s go to mode.

Can’t wait to see a CD 175 out here ❤️

(Up early! Going to Ypres! )

... unless perhaps I fit the B230e motor (mit einspritzen) and AW71 transmission to a 544, now there is a thought!

Stranger things have happened John!

I'm just having some breakfast in our local Wetherspoons and chatting to a mate about the RB/B230/AW71 project. I drove the RB here - it is running so well, it just needed a bit of patient running-in. There has been a lot of interest in the RB sale, but even if it doesn’t sell perhaps I’ll keep it original and store the B230/AW70 for some future use (after I’ve refurbished both).

It looks like I could sell the Bosch K-Jetronic as parts for plenty to break even, and still have a free engine and gearbox!

Another lovely day in paradise.

Alan

In an idle moment I looked up some typical costs for the K-Jetronic system's components:

Accumulator: £75 (used)
Air flow sensor: £170 (used)
Fuel distribution unit: £400 (reconditioned)
Warm up regulator: £180 (used)
Cold start injector: £130 (used)
Auxiliary air valve: £100 (used)

I make that £1,055! - even at a third of that I'd still be at my break even point and have a free B230 motor and AW71 transmission.

:-)

Maybe but how many have sold at those prices Alan? Change your search criteria on ebay to only show completed items and see what they really sold for.

It's all well and good seeing what people are asking but i prefer to see what they actually sold for.
