y V60 went to the dealer with this fault in late October and it was given a software update as the fix. So far the fault hasn't reappeared, after happening twice in the month before going to the dealer. Early signs are promising but it's too early to be sure that it's definitely fixed and that I haven't just been lucky the last month or so.
Same happened to my V60 in 2020. Software update fixed it and didn't recur.

Have just found this forum. My XC60 B5 petrol new in Feb 2021 has failed 4 times with the critical 12 volt battery problem in 5300 miles.
First time at approx 2000 miles and Volvo on call sent guy who had had this problem before and rebooted system by disconnecting power and leaving 20 mins and reconnected. Problem disappeared. Marshall’s at Peterborough had car for a day and could see no problem but updated software. Later in May same occurred in 3rd lane on M25 . Frightening!! Recovered to Volvo Watford who said it needed a replacement isgm (integrated starter generator motor). Had to come from Sweden so car was not ready for 9 days and was delivered back to me in Lincs.
In October my daughter-in-law had same fault near home while I was away on holiday. Approx 4700 on clock and my son tried it and it appeared to have cleared itself.
Yesterday same again at 5300 miles. Volvo on call sent fitter but by time he arrived the fault again cleared itself. He was arranging for it to be recovered to Marshalls but no one turned up( Friday afternoon?) The fitter had had other Volvo hybrids withe the same fault.
Can I ask if anyone has managed to reject one of this vehicles and get a replacement? Mine is leased so presumably the finance co is who to approach?

3 week old V60 B5 cross country displayed this exact message a few minutes from home today. Wasn’t able to even get home and was lucky to get the car off the road before it stopped completely. Wouldn’t restart, stranded.
Rescued by wife and as I’m typing car is waiting to be towed to dealer.
To say I’m annoyed is quite the understatement. Less than 500km on the clock.
I’ll wait and see what the dealer comes back with.

Hi everyone,

I’m new to the forum but the same issue has hit me today in my V60 hybrid that was bought in Nov.21 (registered Sept. 21).

The fault message first occurred two days ago and then disappeared but has now returned and the car is in what Volvo Assistance described as ‘limp’ mode. The engineer is trying to fix it.

Just been told the battery is completely goosed! They are coming to replace it tomorrow as one of the cells isn’t holding any charge at all.

Not a great experience with my third Volvo!

We had the same problem and we were stuck in France on a Sunday apparently it happened because we had all the chargers on simultaneously plugged on the phones while in the channel tunnel and the battery went to less than 76%. A volvo technician was able to help us remotely, you have to press front and rear windscreen heater buttons while revbing the engine to 2000 per minute . The notice disappeared and the car worked immediately..

Default V60 battery critical charging fault.

Today I've experienced the same fault on an extremely narrow country lane so I couldn't and dare not stop the engine although it was "Kangaroo hopping" at extremely low speeds. Engine would intermittantly rev high but no power to the drive system.
No engineer available when I eventually got home so I have to wait until tomorrow.
Volvo Assist have accepted that this is a common issue.
Should this car be marketed with such a regular occurrence ?

Hi Davidhu,
Is the car sorted now or did you get repeat issues.
Did you actually contact the leasing company - if so did you get anywhere ?
Mine is also leased and this problem started today.
I never had these problems with my 1965 Morris 1000 Van.

Hello Trevor. Just found your post hence delay in replying. The problem appears to be solved after a software update at Marshall’s of Grantham just after Christmas. I have since done another 6000 miles with no further problems.

At the time I did approach the leasers with a view to rejecting the car. They put me on to the financiers who are Santander in my case who were very helpful and kept in touch and spoke to the garage to ensure they had done the necessary work.

I am amazed that this problem is still occurring as Volvo are obviously aware of it and also it’s cure. I shall be reluctant to have another of this brand, even though this is my fifth Volvo.

Had the same issue a few weeks ago, literally an hour after driving it with no issues - it went into limp mode because of the hybrid system. Fault cleared itself by the time the Volvo tech came, but I insisted it went to Ray Chapman for investigation - They did a software update (and fixed a piece of exterior trim that was rattling) and it seems to have been fine since....fingers crossed.

Volvo assistance on the other hand were absolute tosh compared to how good it was a few years ago!

MY23 Diesel car was not responding to key fob and suspected a drained battery. Volvo on call performed a jump start and car came back to life but has the 12V battery critical charging fault. Also has other messages such as eCall is malfunctioning and car seem to be in Turtle mode now.

Going to be picked up tomorrow morning in recovery truck to local dealer. This is an AAOS car unsure if anyone had this issue previously?
