Default Older Car Insurance

It's insurance renewal month for my 1996 960 3Ltr 24v. My current insurers have sent me a renewal quotation which is not too bad, so I'm ok for insurance over the next year.

As I always shop around, however, I have telephoned for comparison quotes from two other big-name insurers. With one of these I went through all the rigmarole over the phone until we got to the car details, at which point I was surprised when they said they couldn't offer me cover on the Volvo because it was 'too old'. The person couldn't give me an explanation of the reason.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Stan.

It’s over 25 years old now, many insurance companies don’t insure them.

The good news is that you now qualify for classic insurance, I’m with Peter James, although there are obviously hundreds. 👍

Yes Adrian Flux will give a good deal , but he is only a broker , when you make a claim you will have to deal direct with which ever obscure company he fixes you up with . Thats not particularly bad as they dealt with a claim of mine very well .

Both of mine are through Adrian Flux, however they do have the habit of hiking the renewal premiums quite a bit, so be prepared to shop around next time around.

I've seem to rotate through AF, Heritage and Peter Best, although Saga (don't laugh) were also very good and offer a 3 year fixed price option which can be competitive.

Same here.

Oddly enough, while one car went up 25% and then became just 2% when I asked them to look for different insurers, the renewal for the other car has just arrived and it's gone down over 30% !

Insurance is weird and unpredictable.

There’s an AF thread , isn’t there, discussing their merits?
