I didn't watch the programme, I might try to find it online later. But whilst there are such issues as shortages of chips, parts from Ukraine, factories short handed due to Covid etc. I'd suggest that just like it's always been, your car is so expensive because it's what the manufacturer can get away with. In the past cars were a luxury item so those who wanted luxury paid up, then we convinced ourselves they were a necessity and we paid up, now there are enough people wanting to stitch themselves up with various finance and leasing deals at high prices that the manufacturers are just coining it in. We might cut them a bit of slack as they are obviously not getting the volume of sales they used to due to problems building cars and they have had a couple of bad years due to Covid, but then haven't we all? Best way to get car prices down is to stop buying them but I don't see that happening any time soon.
