Default XC60 D5 Aux Belts

My new to me XC60 has a full service history with first 3 being main dealer and next 3 being a Bosch Service Centre.

https://sandkautos.co.uk/

I've read on here that the Aux belts change at 54k is important but I can't tell if they were done 2 years ago or not (car now at 75k). Does anyone know if you can tell by looking at them whether they are 2 years old or still the originals and 6 years old?

Would the Bosch Sevice Centre have used genuine Volvo belts? If not then I guess they haven't been done.

Its unlikely that a Bosch centre would use Volvo belts.

Isn’t it recorded in the service book or paperwork?

Service book is all stamped up and there are some additional invoices but nothing more detailed from S&K Autos unfortunately. I think people take all paperwork out of car wallets these days if it has their name and address on it.

I Googled S&K and they do seem to have great customer reviews which is a good sign but this doesn't mean they definitely replaced the belts of course.

Maybe I will ring them and ask although I fear everyone plays the GDPR card these days to get out of telling you anything.

Your XC60 has no data protection rights under GDPR. And whether the belt was changed at the last service is in no way personally identifiable or sensitive information so if they play the GDPR card - they don't know what they're talking about.

It may even be they suggested it to the previous owner and he told them just to do a basic service, you never know...

Worth a call - they should be able to pull up the invoice history from the reg number and the can see what was invoiced on the last jobs without sharing any owner information.

From memory I paid my local dealer £170 to replace the aux belt and tensioner. Perhaps worth having it done for piece of mind

Yes I absolutely will unless I can be certain it has already been done in the last year or 2.

The daft behaviour of the start/stop on the autos (forcing engine stalls and immediate re-starts at every junction and roundabout) means there can be a lot of unnecessary tugging on the aux belt system.

Mine does it a max of once per journey then I remember to hit the button. Having a couple of dashcams which have parking mode helps drain the battery a little to avoid the stop / start kicking in all the time

I rang S&K in my lunch hour and the chap was very helpful and checked their records. So upshot is that fuel filter changed with last service in Jan this year but no aux belts as they do them on a 'visual inspection' basis.

He also confirmed that as a Bosch Service Centre they would not use Manufacturers parts so belts would be Gates or similar. Mine are Volvo so that means not done at 54k. Dealer says £220 for Aux belt and tensioner.

Will be getting it booked in next week I think.

It’s a pretty simple change for DIY. I’m just about to do mine for the second time - just looking up the correct part numbers for genuine Volvo.
