VOLVO S90 (2017,T5)- Dashboard replacement
Hi all,
I am looking at purchasing the type of car listed above, but upon inspection it's clear the dashboard is severley wrinkled. I have done a bit of research on this and it would appear quite a common defect. I am wondering on the likely cost of replacing an entire dashboard and if such replacements do not create secondary problems. Has anyone replaced an entire dashboard on the above model or similar? Was it successful? In hindsight any regrets? Any other thoughts? Thanks Jon |

Other than not cheap ie over a £1000 for the cost of a new dash and fitting. The main problem with things like this is it’s a big ish job. A lot of trim has to be removed and seats I believe. I have seen photos of AC evaporators getting changed on these cars and it is literally the entire interior removed at the front.
Biggest issue is going to be rattles and creaks. It only takes a trim tab to break off or not get seated back in correctly to cause an issue. It’s certainly do able but the skill and care of person doing it is the key in my opinion. You want to be sat in it and not be able to tell someone’s had it in a million bits. That’s what I work to anyhow.

I concur with the previous poster, it's a major undertaking at considerable cost with the likelihood that you could still be dissatisfied with the end result. The kinds of people who could do that, and do it well, aren't likely to come cheap and it's got to be at *least* a full day's work.
I think you have to base your decision on either a) taking the car as-is and being at peace with it knowing that it still gets you from A to B in comfort, and was a "bargain" or b) not being able to live with the defect and walking away. Additionally, you've been considering this purchase for a while now and the fact the vehicle is still available for purchase should probably tell you something. Most people wouldn't accept a car in that condition and if you do take it on, you should consider the ease of resale when you wish to part with it.
