Default Engine cutting out

Hope someone can help?
My 940 Wentworth has developed a problem. The revs have been going up to about 1000 -1500 but sometimes dying. This has happened when the engine is warm. Switch off and back it disappeared for a while, I was going to clean out the air idle control valve, but today I only just manged to get the old girl home. Engine cut out totally, luckily on the drive at home. If I start the engine I need to keep some power on as it will not idle, just cuts out. Lambda light briefly flicke on. So any iideas?
Thanks in advance.

Most likely an air leak on the induction side.

It's a turbo.
I can start it up, and it'll run for a minute or 2 then start to surge, eventually cutting out, unless I give it some gas then it'll run until I take my foot off the accelerator, then it stalls.

The trouble with this kind of problem is finding out which pipes might be leaking of which sensors might be faulty or even which sensors just need their contacts cleaning ... which is cheap!
Personally I'd start with the contacts on the throttle position sensor and then the IAC valve.
After those two are definitely working I'd clean out the throttle body and re set the idle screw ...
Vacc hose leaks can cause some of these issues, even the rotting hoses to the charcoal canister.
...
There's plenty to check

Default Air leak

Sounds VERY like air leak to me. Check all pressure hoses first.

OK sort of had a bit of success, I replaced the AICV with a spare, and it's not as bad, can't detect any vacuum leaks, but there;s no clicking from the TPS when I tried to adjust it. Behaves most of the time, sometimes surges, however when I turn the ignition off then on it clears the fault for a while, I've removed fuse No1 to reset things, I'm guessing it's the TPS that needs replacing?

The click is very faint ... I removed mine to clean the middle then carefully tested and replaced and spent some time getting it to only just click with a slack throttle cable.
If it doesn't click at all it needs seeing to.
