Default Maintenance?

I've done 10135 miles and a massage shows "book time for maintenance".
This can't be a first service surely? seems rather early.

My first service was due at 10,000km / 6 months

My car is currently 5 months OTR with 9,800km on the clock and the "Book Service" message first appeared at 5 months 1 week and with 9,300km.

I just had the service done today.

Just rang the garage and the guy said it IS a tad early.
He said the message should appear approximately a month b/4 the purchase date. Also said if the message is annoying , to bring it into the garage and he'll delete it for me.
My car was purchased for Sept 1st 2010.

The message has come up due to the fact it is a year since it was last reset at the PDI ( part of teh PDI is resetting the service reminder ) ..
It seems it had the PDI in July 2010 and was hanging around until september when you had it , hence the service message . It is a good idea to have the service now as the oil etc deteriorates more by not being used ... They could reset the message but it will not come on again until a year or another 18000 miles so you will not get reminded correctly until it is next reset on the day of your correct service .

another thought , Maybe it never had a PDI and the last time it was reset was in the factory when it was made?
