Great Kudos to 37 Ruby for his assistance but could one of you guys finish the job and say what was the problem and how was it fixed. What was the nature of the cause of the problem and what was reset? That way this post becomes a valuable repair resource and not just a buddy celebration!

Crikey all those words when "What was it? would have sufficed
HCM reset via VIDA was the cure

Thanks.

I was trying to establish the fact for everyone that solutions to problems are of greater importance to the entire Volvo community than to the guys who originally had them and solved them.

Over the years we would hope that the forum actually becomes a searchable information source to out do any Haynes manual.

Unfortunately the search engine on here is a tad frustrating and there are so so many dead end threads.

Perhaps all the answers gained could be collated into one problem solving thread for each model then pinned to the top of each section.
But as you appear to already be in collator mode for the greater good, I have graciously stepped aside and volunteer your good self for that onerous task 😏

You are so kind! (We also need a good smiley selection, the lack of which I feel at this moment in time!)

Perhaps this forum doesn't lend itself well to the creation of a heritage information source. Another forum to which I contribute and which does precisely this, is organised to this end, covering only one series of models from 1998 to 2003 and sectioning the threads to specific areas of the car such as Electrics, Bodywork, Petrol Engines, Diesel Engines etc. Chats are dealt with under chat topic sections and the search engine has a much easier job finding stuff. But this is always easier with a precisely defined car club rather than an owners forum for a complete marque like this one which is too huge and sprawling and where the admin are not going to treat one model, ours, differently to all the other dozens of models that Volvo have produced.

But completing the story on a problem solved does go some way towards having information stored for the future.

I really like you forum name. My first car was an Austin Seven, a 1932 engine in a 1934 chassis with an alloy 2 seater54 body conversion. Happy days in the 750 Motor Club!
