I can't get hold of the garage until Monday now.
I'll update you all as soon as I know.

Thumbs up

Car fixed.
the problem was the Turbo Actuator was seized solid and the valve timing was out by 2 teeth.
The car is running great again, ready for the rest of the car show season.

Thanks for all your advice and help.
Aaron.

I take it you took it to a different garage who checked the not quite so obvious stuff then?

No, the same garage.
They are normally on the ball with things like this but seem to have had a bad day (or week).

Question

More bad news ...
It's now loosing power on hills and intermittently stalling on take off, but it's now changing gear ok.
It will rev cleanly to the red line when out off gear and standing still, if that helps.
My mate has run an engine diagnostic and it's saying a MAF fault so I'm going to be looking around the motor factors tomorrow for one.
It's loosing speed on hills (even at 70mph on the motorway) it's kicking down at 65mph and accelerating up to speed again but not until it's lost the speed in the first place.
Does this sound like the MAF Sensor or something else?
Also would the fact that the speedo doesn't work have any affect on it driving?

Many Thanks,
Aaron.

Sounds more like a blocked fuel filter to me or a failing fuel pump! It will give a MAF fault code because the ECU doesn't see the engine responding to the airflow that's going in to the engine.

Pull fuse #1 for 30 seconds and refit, drive it then run the diag again.

Finally fixed (temporarily).
I will need a new boost pipe but for now it's running properly again.
Unfortunately I can't upload the photo (if anyone can help with how to resize them, please let me know, thanks in advance) of the pipe to show you how bad it is/was but it was in a bad condition with splits up both sides of the pipe that runs beneath the intake manifold.
Anyway, we have taped up the pipe until I can get it replaced & it's running great again. It will rev cleanly through the range, change gears when it should & it doesn't loose power on hills anymore.

Many Thanks for all your help & advice on this problem.

Cheers,
Aaron.
