Default front lower arms

Require new front lower arms for my P2 V70 T5 but when looking at vida it lists two different part numbers for each side. Can anyone explain the difference? The car is on 17 inch wheels if that makes a difference. Thanks if you can help.

The only difference I'm aware of is there are both steel and alloy types, and I'm told the balljoint cup is a different size so they're not interchangeable

Someone else might come along with more specific info to your model / year ?

You could do the obvious test in the mean time to check yours, put a magnet on it

Depending on what year the car was build.
Until 2006 alloy after 2006 steel.
That’s what’s on my mind…

I got a cheap pair from energised customs I think it was, 80 quid for both

I only used them temporarily while polybushing my originals and then I gifted them on to someone else who was doing the same I think so I couldn't comment on how long they would last

If you just want to do it once and forget, and if you want to get more than a few years out of the car really my suggestion would be, drill out your old bushes and fit Powerflex, or just cough up for proper ones. Cheap ones are probably a false economy

Yes to Powerflex.
They are great.
Do not equate these control arm bushings with (unnecessarily rough) poly engine mounts. They're just what these cars need.

I still have, and have offered here, my old alloys for prefitting with polys but shipping costs has kept them on this side of the Atlantic.

Default Control arm dilemma

My 2007 has steel ones, the number is stamped on them so get under and have a look for peace of mind.
I have gone with Meyle HD, they have a 4 yr guarantee as do all their HD products.
Purchased from Auto Doc, but takes a while to arrive, but they do!

Changed my front arms for oem Volvo types. They give a refund on your old arms wenn buying new ones at the dealer…
They are still good after 340.000 km on the car.
Going to install the refurbished polybushed arms in a few weeks…

I stay away from the brand meyle…. Have seen a waterpump brake down within 20.000km on a vw TDI, and front shockabsorbers within 15.000km… no more meyle. Wouldn’t recommend it to anybody..

This brings to mind a tale from my last V70, a 2007 with steel arms. What I believe happened with the previous owner was the ball-joint needed replacing & I think whoever did the work broke the alloy hub carrier trying to get the old balljoint out. They then bought a used hub carrier with ball joint from a breakers & fitted it. Through ignorance or whatever, they fitted a hub carrier & ball joint from an earlier car with alloy lower arms.
I discovered this when I came to re-bush the lower arms, undid the ball joint nut & the lower arm fell off due to having a balljoint without a taper. Beware, these folk are out there........

Be aware that there are a couple of different options for the alloy arms allegedly based on brake size.

See my thread here https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=312866
Mine seems to have a slightly different design with a different type of steering stop.. but don’t know why.
