Stretch gets a bad wrap

My smart ForFour tyres have big stretch with tyres that need to be put on the rim with the air canister to almost explode them on

Rims are fine

As you know JJ, this is not my cup of tea, but if you like it then go for it :-).

I'm looking forward to seeing a report on how it works out.

Well it allows my stupidly wide wheels to sit within the arches - no rubbing

Response from Petterssons on tyres on oceans

Quote:
The most “standard” fitment is with 215/35r18. If you go any lower in sizing the tyres will have a lower weight classification than the maximum loading on the car. (It will impact the life time of the tyres by a lot, since the tyre will start to separate. (we usually only sell sizes like 205/35r18 to A-tractors and slower moving vehicles!)

Best regards
Lukas Persson,
So let’s see how it all goes

Yeah that’s why I asked them directly

Think there is a translation error in there somewhere re tractor haha

In asking the modding side of the community,
215/35 is the way to go. As I said, if it’s coming down to 5mm then I defo have that to play with wrt angle grinder

I’m just looking forward to driving it again as I’m getting so much praise for how’s its turning out

Think I need to do a before and after

Maybe, or perhaps that is the ad Petterssons runs in Farmers' Weekly?

I'm guessing the adjustable Panhard rod was not able to bring the arrangement within tolerance with the 225 tyres fitted, but perhaps you have the axle fitted centrally now so you can estimate how much leeway you might have with the 215 section tyres. I hope it doesn't come down to just a few millimetres, I'm not sure that would be safe enough to allow for the tyres flexing during driving.

We are all waiting to see how your motor car drives JJ, and we do so hope it works our well.

Good fortune.

A-tractors are cars that have had the back chopped off and turned in to a pick up truck/flat bed and are limited to something like 30kmh and can be driven by 15 year olds IIRC.

hence why he said the stretch is okay for slow moving vehicles like A-tractors, how many are genuinely limited is another question as how do you do limit a 1980's 240 or a 940 turbo to 30kmh? I've seen videos on YouTube of them and the kids are joking about the limiter.

There was a lowered 940 at the BKV running mk18s on 215/40 tyres but you could see the arches all had damage where the tyres had been hitting them. Maybe if it was lowered less it would have been okay or if it was the 35 profile tyres.

Cool - good info

C'mon you lot...call yourselves experts A-Traktors are a famous part of the Volvo story...!

The speed limit is usually achieved through an extreme diff ratio, or a special reduction gearbox.

cheers

James
