Default C70 roof problems how to manually bring the roof down

Hi all
looking for some help on my c70 with a none working roof, I am about to take to a Volvo specialist to have a look and diagnose it, but he has said that the roof needs to be in the open position, and to save a few quip I want to try this, so if anybody has done this please can they give me some pointers, as I have seen the the way too put the roof up,
is it just the reverse to get it down? As I have nothing on the switch to even part way get it open.

Thx Duncan

Find the motor and either short it to get it working or remove the motor and try and fold it back

DON'T do this!!!!

You can manually open or close the roof. Open the boot and you will see the slots to use the tools. If you have your manual it explains how to do this, if not go online to find it. The hand tool to do this is a bit slow, but if you have a drill driver with the correct bit you can speed it up, just make sure you use the unlock tool first.

Let us know how you get on.

I just spoke to a friend and he paid £70 just for 1 micro switch, kind of expensive.

Agree. DONT force anything or go trying to short any motors out as you will end up costing yourself £1000's

Here is the proper guide.

Which model car do you have
Your Vulva specialist is hiding their ignorance with lies, or just lying
The roof does not need to be down for OBD analysis
What about the silver metal fuse thing, in the relay panel under the dash

As has been said - there is no need to lower the roof to do diagnostics.

When you press the button - do you get a flashing red LED and a beep? If not check the fuse. If so the ECU is stopping the roof operation which can be down to a number of common reasons or a system fault (microswitch etc).

- Check the boot lid is closed and switch working (does the boot light go out?)

- Check handbrake switch - do you get a handbrake light on the dash when it's on?

- Check rear heated window is off

- Probably obvious but car must be < 4 kmph

You can read the fault codes and the sensor/switch status from the roof ECU with VIDA but to do any programming or re-caliberation the old Volvo Scan Tool needs to be used. And indie may not have this, you should check first as it is pretty much essential if programming is required.
