There are 3 'O' rings in the clutch hydraulic system. Over time these deteriorate enough for the pressure in the system to be impacted. I vaguely remember there are 3 of these. Once replace the clutch works as it should do though I had the clutch switch replaces as well. On my S60 anyway....

Several months ago I had an intermittent problem where the clutch pedal would not fully return on occasions. Eventually the garage said it was probably the slave cylinder. As such, due to the huge cost involved it made sense to replace the clutch at the same time. Over £1.5K. I'm still experiencing the same issue and your experience seems to be the only thing related to what I'm experiencing, so it's back to the garage again now.
