DAB Radio issue
Hi,
I just bought a 2011 XC60 (Never owned a Volvo before) It was listed as having the premium upgrade audio system in it. When I select radio I get the following options on screen: AM FM 1 FM 2 DAB 1 DAB 2 If I select AM, FM 1 or FM 2 then press OK it goes to the relevant band and I can select radio stations. However, when I press ok on DAB 1 or DAB 2 nothing happens. Does anyone have any idea what the issue may be? Could it be that despite having the options on screen that DAB is not available on that unit? One other issue I have is that I get no sound from the front driver side speakers, at first I suspected the speaker itself but as there is no sound from the tweeter on that door either I am concerned it is more a fault with the radio itself. Any help would be appreciated |

This is a guess but at one point circa 2010-2013 the DAB radio was an option on most Volvo's but they could be ordered with "DAB preparation" which was essentially extra wiring for the DAB aerial and module meaning it could be retrofitted at a later date. Without DAB Prep it cannot. I wonder if your car had that? A call to the dealer with the reg number should be able to reveal the build.
In the meantime check you don't have any phone chargers, dashcam power supplies or other things plugged into the 12v sockets. I'd also check the manual - it might be on the pre-sensus cars that you have to do a scan before any channels are populated? Again - just a guess on my part.

Update
Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I have tried to contact Volvo but both head office and dealerships seem reluctant to reply (or are just too busy). I have nothing at all plugged into anything yet. All I know about the radio is it has the Premium sound by Harman Kardon. I cant scan for channels as it does not allow me to select the DAB. Most other menu items are greyed out when unselectable and become bright when they are selectable but the DAB selections are not greyed out, they just dont select when I press OK. I Guess I will just have to find the nearest dealer and pay them a visit. Regarding the no sound at drivers door, that is now working, since the only thing I did was move the module under the passenger seat while removing the carpet I must assume it was a loose connection on the module. Ok,
Getting nowhere with the dealers, seems to be a lack of knowledge about older cars or disinterest as not purchased from them. So still need help I have stripped out the audio module and checked it for any obvious signs such as broken or loose wires etc but none were found. It definitely has the DAB wiring and the module is DAB also (Part number 31346184) To repeat the issue is when I select am or fm from the menu it selects them fine but when I press OK on DAB 1 or DAB 2 nothing happens, it just stays on whatever bandwidth it was on at the time. The only other bit of information I can add is that there was a new battery fitted to the car recently, not sure if that would have any bearing on the matter. I have looked at replacement modules but hate to spend between £60 and £150 for one only to find that was not the issue. Any help would be most welcome. |

It is listed in your cars build sheet which any dealer can look up and print out in 5 minutes flat . One of the best in the country is Keith Price Garages , ask for Neil the parts manager .

Hi Clan.
Thanks for your reply. As mentioned in my post it definitely has the dab module. I took a picture of it when I stripped the back seat out which I have attached to this post. |

I have exactly the same issue on my V70 at the moment.
It start with the DAB radio occasionally stopping working after a few minutes of driving. Stopping the engine and turning ignition off etc at traffic lights and restarting would sort it then it would be fine for weeks. Now I have the same symptoms as you. It can not be selected or tuned. My local Volvo specialist plugged it in to their VIDA and it reported a fault with the DAB unit so I am not about to buy a replacement unit and try that.
