Default C30 Top Mount Bearings

Think the time has come to change the top mount bearings on my 2010 C30. Developed a clunking noise when going over sleeping policeman, potholes and even going slowly over ripples in the road. Last year it had new wishbones, balljoints and droplinks but after reading about the top mounts I think they're on their way out. Question is, is there anyway these can be checked for gradual failure or is it just a case of putting new ones on and if the clunking has gone then great. Any advice is appreciated.

If they are well gone you may be able to feel some play with the front end jacked up however this isn't guaranteed.

Once off the car any wear is more obvious but by that point you may as well replace them anyway.

One thing I would suggest is paying a bit more for decent parts, there are some cheap options available but they wear out quickly and it's not unheard of for them to be knackered again in less than a year.
