Default New C30 owner - wavering engine temp?

Hi

Just picked up a lovely 2007 C30, 2.0S after having enough of a 2006 Golf TSi with head gasket issues and overheating.

Drove back from the seller yesterday. Took a while for the engine to get to 90 and then it seemed to stop around 89 on the M25. Then, with acceleration, the engine temp dipped down slightly to 85, before climbing back to 89.

The VW Golf had all sorts of coolant issues and ran rough. temporary sealant fixed things but once warmed up it sat at 90 and didn't move, so I'm panicking that something's wrong with the Volvo.

The c30 drives far more smoothly and starts first time. (Unlike the Golf!) . Naieve question, but is this a feature of C30s? A thermostat that's open and needs replacing?

Car has been serviced like clockwork, last major service in Jan, so it's been looked after. After a year of gremlins in the Golf TSi I hope I've not been foolish...

Monitor it, may just be a foible of the motor.

Not serious really, so far. Not the time to fret yet!🧐

I assuming you are reading out the data from ECU , yes that is fine

The gauge needle should always remain in the middle of the scale with no notable deviation.

Thanks for the reply! Not got a scanner so just noted visually the deviation. Hasn't gone over 90 so no overheating but does drop to 85 when accelerating. Steady and no movement on the motorway.

Engine sounds fine, lovely drive. Have seen posts elsewhere saying that the deviation shows the thermostat working & my local garage Hatchams says it's normal, as does Sentinel Volvo in Tottenham.

Service booked so I can at least have things checked again!

Default Wavering temperature - a positive update!

Well, since I last posted in July with worries about a fluctuating temp gauge, my 2.0 C30 has done a LOT of miles. Had a summer holiday to the Mull of Kintyre, driving up from London. The car drove very well and extremely smoothly. I stopped watching the temperature gauge and my anxieties evaporated. It still goes low sometimes, but has had no reflection on car performance. Pretty good on fuel and cruises very nicely. The big relief is having a car that starts first time, every time - unlike my old TSI Golf. Phew!
