  • VOC Members: There is no login facility using your VOC membership number or the details from page 3 of the club magazine. You need to register in the normal way

Default Starter problem

Hi a new battery the starter motor is 3 years old and it's only done 6000 miles turn the ignition on all the lights come on completely dead the battery power is getting to the starter and solenoid take a live lead from the battery to the solenoid it starts first time.Tried 5 times and it starts.Leave for 30 minutes and it's completely dead.Any help would be appreciated. Sticky solenoid isn't an unknown problem, a tap with a hammer was the old school cure. Dodgy/loose/corroded engine earth strap will also give similar symptoms of start/no-start, so check that before smashing your solenoid to smithereens in frustration...

EDIT: Just read your message properly, sounds like starter solenoid etc. are fine, but your ignition switch terminals might be gakky..?
