Default ETM and then

Have now driven the V70 for a week since the ETM clean out and upgrade.

Symptoms so far:

1. Does not always return to idle locks or hesitates at 1400 revs.
2. Engine spurts and accelerates for two second periods at a variety of
speeds.
3. Cruise control intermittent not always working.
4. And to cap it all, today, doing a nice steady 75mph on the A1 and the car began to kangaroo quite badly!

Volvo customer care offering 20% on throttle replacement - what's a loyal customer supposed to do - grin and bare it or so it seems. Car booked into main dealer next week. Not happy. Wondering what our consumer rights are in this case or does that have to be decided by the courts.

I've just had my ETM cleaned and s/w updated. Having driven back from the dealer my idle speed seems to now be stuck at 1300-1400rpm, very occassionally dropping to 800rpm when stationary for a while.

My symptons prior to this were occasional glitches disabling cruise control, and sometimes feeling you were driving on a windy day (when it wasn't).

Dealer said they found no error codes and couldnt find anything wrong - although they've certainly introduced a fault now!

Is this normal or have they screwed things up?

Bluedog - how did you get on with yours?

My advice is to contact BBC TV Watchdog. If enough people do this it just may eventually have an impact.

email to: watchdog@bbc.co.uk.

Well, my idle has settled down a little now. It sits now at about 900-1000rpm when warm, although seems to always start up with a high idle initially even if the car is already warmed up.

Call me cynical, but it looks to me like they have raised the idle speed so that the carbon pots are not sitting in the highest 'wear' area, which would have been at your old idle speed.

And that's why we have not been able to resolve this problem...

Volvo cleaned out my ETM and uploaded the new software about 500 mile ago. The car ran perfectly, idle, running and performace - all brilliant as before, but 500 miles later it developed a mysterious turbo boost problem (which is now sorted) but they are saying that the ETM replacement is still most likely required.

I had my S70's ETM cleaned and the software upgrade free of charge by Volvo on Tusday, the car does not do what it did before which was rev on its own very slightly.

I will wait and see the out come over the next few thousand miles is.

I did read on a website that most cars devolpe this fault within the first 70k is this the case? my car has done 124k and being ex plod would they of had the problem sorted??

Cheers all

Matt.

Mine's been in the family since new and has 119K on the clock and still on the original ETM. The easiest way of telling if its been done is to check the colour of the label on the ETM, white = old unit and yellow = replacement unit
