Ripped off... I've been
Morning to you all S/V40 community
Just had an MOT and an oxigen sensor changed (NGK part) with the relevant diagnostic test plus a test drive for a knock in the front axle (nothing found) which has translated into £337.68 This feels like rubbish to me, guys. What do you reckon? Fernandez (rather upset...)

Independent garage (not even a Volvo specialist). Invoice is in the post but an MOT around here (Central Scotland) is usually £30-40.

Ask for a breakdown of the bill. MOT is about £56, labour for fitting the new sensor say 1 hour at what ever their hourly rate is, the cost of the part and 20% VAT. This should give you an indication of whether the charge is about right or not.

An aftermarket NGK sensor is around £100 but the Volvo sensor will be around £230 now so it does depend what you have to see if the rip off is real or not?
I would of thought as not using the Volvo dealer then a bit expensive bill!

Without sounding too much like SkyShip - I would get the NGK one off and replace it as these really are one of the critical things that needs to stay as Volvo. The part is about £230 IIRC so I would expect that to be in your bill at that price - Labour for fitting should be next to nothing, it's not a big job.
£230 for Volvo front lambda sensor. £50 for MOT £50 odd labour for an hours work, probe/drive about Your NGK sensor is probably half that price, if that and £50 for that work is pushing it. If I were you I would request a break down of costs, get that NGK sensor off and put a Volvo one on. Volvo themselves specifically say that after market probes should not be used as a replacement for this particular part. Even if it's second hand I'd advise look into getting a genuine one |

yeah but regardless he will be charged at least an hours labour for the fitting, diagnostic and the poking about at the knock/rattle.
£40 diagnostic? £100 sensor £50 MOT 1-2 hours labour? vat all adds up, time is money and all that |

I think ask for a breakdown of the invoice and see if the individual lines sound right!
