Do the side lights stay on as well ?
My 940 has dim dip headlamps which are controlled by a relay. If the relay was faulty the lights would stay on. On my 940 the relay I am on about is positioned just above your right foot behind the ABS control unit. I found that disconnecting this relay enables you to run without the daytime run lamp headlamps being on, just the sidelights. |

Does the head unit retain any pre-set stations after being switched off? If it does not then it is likely that the two power supplies have been swapped. The 'constant' supply is to let it retain the pre-set and CD position info. The switched supply is to make it run. If the switched supply is connected to the memory circuit any installed CD will always start from the beginning and you will need to manually tune the stations. (This is how the Volvo units that I use are working - I have assumed that other manufacturers will have the same sort of basic set-up.)

Migrator is right about the Cd operation - I've got a Kenwood set in theExxon Valdez and a JVC set in Sweden's finest sporting saloon and both use a low-amperage line for memory and a higher-amperage line for operation. The clock fuse usually feeds the low-amperage side and the fan blower fuse, which is accessory live, feeds the operation side.
Needless to say I can't find the wiring/fitting istructions for either unit.

Steve, I'll check out the faq on the ignition barrell and the relay. I've not looked in my Haynes because I know some electricals are different in my diesel to the petrol, have seen some archived posts on here on that but will take a look at the Haynes anyway, some elecricals may be the same
Migrator I'm pretty sure the pre-sets do stay on which is why I was sitting here scratching my head last night. I used to have a friend who was an auto-electricain many years ago and whenever he put an aftermarket cd in my cars he asked me which way I wanted it set up, but either way I would keep my pre-sets which is why I thought you could wire them either way, to go off/stay on once ignition is turned off but maybe because he was a spark and knew what he was doing he could do this Thanks Loki
