Default T4 loss of power

Hey folks, i was wondering if you could help me. I have a 97 s40 t4 and ive been noticing random losses of power from time to time. Every so often it seems as though the turbo is cutting out for a second and then comes back to life. Its my first volvo so im not too well informed about there problems. Someone told me there prone to fuel pump issues, is this true? It isnt happening enough to be a problem but i do wanna know sould i take it in to Volvo now incase it turns into a bigger issue.

Cheers Folks
Morgan

Fuel pumps can give trouble, does the pump seem noisey ?
If the pump is on its last legs keep the tank full, the fuel keeps the pump cool.
Also check its got genuine volvo spark plugs, these are a must on the T4.

Cheers dude. The guy i got her off said to keep using the platinum plugs and that mine had areound 10k left on them, i havent done close to 10k yet so i presume there still cool. Now that you mention it, it only really happens around the 20 liter mark.. Actually also my trip computer has stopped working. Does anyone know how to fix that?

Hi, could also be the FPR(fuel pressure regulator) with any performance car fuel pump or pressure issues will be more exagerated. Mine has the same problem, some days it's like rocket and others it seems slower than my honda accord (2.2i VTEC) which in theory is 50hp and 72.blah blah blah lbs ft of torque down on the T4. I know my fuel pump is fackered though, can you here a whirring sound inside the car when you start it, you should get the initial short buzz/whirr and the fuel pump primes the injectors when you switch the ignition on but there should be no audible noise once engine is running. It's not always that easy to notice so make sure stereo is off when you listen for it.

It could be your cat, if the ceramics have shattered your exhaust plugs up drasticly affecting power.

Thanks man. I had a listen and yeah i can hear a noise from behind the back doors, like a whirring. The car takes a while to start u too, it allways does but maby takes 10 seconds on the ignition before it comes to life. Is this another symptom? Also is it expencive to repair?

The fuel pump is under the rear seats and it does sound to me like that's you rproblem fella. 960KG has just replaced his so might be worth sending him a PM mate.

Yep, sounds like FPR and fuel pump issues. If you do a search for either you'll see your exact symptoms. Pumps are good for 100k miles and the slow starting is normally due to a faulty FPR.
