Yes... I am sure. I think the EARLIEST service if ever required, is at 240.000 km (so that would be 150.000 miles). The filter though is service free. To change it, I think the tank has to be removed...

T5 and Volvo 5 cylinder petrols have the filter somewhere else... That filter is also for 2.4, 2.4i and T5. NOT for the 2.0l or 1.8l!

Just to throw some er... 'Current feedback' in this post..

Drove 120 miles from essex to coventry this morning - lumpy and struggled pretty much the whole way..

On the 120 miles HOME - nothing, perfect drive.. Aaaaaaaaaaaah! Just makes this worse as it happens at random times...

Hmm... Now, that is weird. Keep an eye on this.

Does it matter if it is warm/dry or wet/cold out?

I don't believe so.. But what COULD it be if those weather conditions made a difference?

It would be something electrical. Connections somewhere along the lines. You could try it by going through a machine car wash... If it doesn't cough and splutter when you drive in and does when you drive out, then it is the dampness.

Just had a re-read over the thread.

Well I am finding it difficult to even reduce the possible suspects that is causing your problem due the wide varying symptoms but what I suspect is the most likely cause if not the coil packs is:

Bad fuel
Wiring loom chaffing that feeds the coil packs (or a pack)
Spark plugs (Volvo ones are recommended over the various "Performance" ones)

Try taking out the current plugs, clean them up and check the gap. When you put them back in check the wiring leading to the coil packs and ensure there is no rubbing anywhere that might be causing a short and thus a spark not to get to the plug. This would certainly cause your symptoms.

Hey Sony,

that is basically what I am down to, except the spark plugs. The engine manufacturer recommends NGK plugs. Only Volvo recommends for the same engine the home brand plugs...

And then, if it were the plugs, then it would be like that all the time.

Another thing I thought would be water in the fueltank (collecting at the bottom) or the possibility of the fuel suction pipe having a little hole resulting in bubbles in the fuel line...

Or wiring loom and dampness.

I'd recommend Gus to keep an eye on the exact weather when it occurs and doesn't occur...
