Hi!
Does anybody know exactly how to adjust the boost on a 1.9T (i.e.:up to 8psi)? thanks |

RE: turbo tuning
Hi
If I have understood this thread correctly, my understanding is that the 2000MY V70 R AWD (265 BHP) uses the 19T turbo and this unit can be retro fitted to any of the 2.3 turbo engines. However, a different front downpipe is also needed to fit it to earlier models. This can make it a job of around £1,000 in cost. There are a few people on the forum who have had this mod done and I believe it is pretty spectacular! On shoving the boost up to 8 psi... I don't know on this other than an ECU remap. I have had the RICA software put on my 1998 V70 R AWD and and this has increased the boost on my 18T based engine from 0.8 bar to 1.2 bar and it is pretty good. Hope this is of some help!

RE: turbo tuning
Hi
The turbo pressure can only really be adjusted by ECU remap. It is possible to get an interimm pressure change by altering the wastegate but the ECU will readjust the parameters 'internally' as it will be seeing overboost. The 19T turbo is a different matter. It will allow higher boosts to be set but because of the weakness in the conrods you do not actually see any increase. What the 19T does is allow the turbo to spool up faster and does not run out of steam at higher rpm. Hence you get more boost at higher rpm. Unless you intend running the engine at 5500 rpm or above you will not really see the benefit of the 19T. Karl |

RE: turbo tuning
you could use a MBC (manual boost controller) to raise boost like i have, but as it's NOT being computer controlled anymore you'll have to keep an eye on the air/fuel to make sure you don't lean out

RE: turbo tuning
Yes an MBC can be used but in my opinion it is a very basic improvement. On my V70R AWD with a 19T turbo the boost was controlled depending on the rpm. This approach gave max power/torque but also protected the rods from bending (if a high boost is applied below 3000 rpm).
The boost was quite interesting - 3000 1bar 5500 1.2 bar right to redline. There was quite a surge of power at 5500 rpm which took the car to about 165 -170 mph. Karl |
