Are you conecting because the car has a fault or just curiosity? When you first turn the key on dose the EML light up for the bulb test?

Hey,
sorry i totally forgot.. i was kinda in a rush. It's a Volvo V40 1.9d 2002, 115hp I connected it out of curiosity, EML light is not on. I do have some issues with power loss on full throttle though, that's why i was curious. Edit: I'll check tomorrow if the bulb lights up for testing though - good point KBB Last edited by dirrtyass; Nov 30th, 2012 at 00:16. |

When you are in the start page, select the second tab to choose your car. You need to manually enter the VIN number of your car, select the position of the steering wheel and click ok. You can test the DICE tool to see if it connects ok. See attached photo. Click on 1. DICE CONFIGURATION, then 2. TEST COMMUNICATION TOOL and finally 3. RUN. Obviously you have to make sure that the car key is turned in position 2 IGNITION. Try this and see what happens. If your DICE still does not communicate with the car, then it is either that it is faulty, or that your ECU has a problem, probably a bad earth or something

Thank you for the quick reply :-)
I did the communication test - it says my dice is OK. Strange thing is, that it does in fact read every other module, just the ECU seems to be not availible. Is it possible, that the ECU is somehow locked - and needs to be reset? My engine works fine, pulls very well. I guess the MAF is delivering unplausible data, that's why i want to enter the ECU to check for that. Any idea how i should proceed? Edit: I'm running Vida 2012A and Dice-firmware 5.6.1 on Win7 64 bit |

That is beyond my knowledge I am afraid. I am also running VIDA 2012A with 5.6.1 firmware, on Windows XP installed virtually on Linux Mint. I only had a problem communicating with the ECU once and that was due to a faulty ground wire feeding to the ECU...... Once that was repaired, I had no more issues connecting.
Never heard off a locked ECU before btw

But wouldnt a faulty groundend ECU stop working? Did your car run fine with the faulty ground?

That wasn't on my car. But now you mentioned that, you are absolutely correct. The car had a major issue with the immobiliser, so I guess you have a point. I am not sure why DICE is not communicating with the ECM.......

Another strange thing is - the error codes were read of the ECU last week. I was in a Bosch car service shop, where they plugged in their own device. It was no Volvo device. They also tried to delete the error codes, but couldn't do that.
Is it possible that they somehow messed up my ECU? Edit: The error code said MAF signal unplausible btw. Thanks again for replying so fast ! :-) Last edited by dirrtyass; Nov 29th, 2012 at 23:56. |
