@Stephen Sorry for late reply. I haven't fitted it yet - still waiting on a few parts before I book it in to garage.

Below is what I received though and appears to match up with what is under the car.

Thank you.

I'm seeing those fixings as rather different from the fixings of any 240 towbar I have had. I'm puzzled.

Those fixings came from USA. Is it a USA specification car and/or towbar?

Neither car nor tow bar are from USA.

I assumed, perhaps incorrectly, that the spec would be the same.

Good so we both have UK specification car and towbar.

Perhaps it is the way I am looking at the photograph.

Are there two large hexagonal head bolts, the same size as each other? What size are they please?

1. Diameter of the thread or shaft of each bolt. (or an M size perhaps marked on the hexagonal head)?

and

2. Length from the underside of the hexagonal head to the end of the bolt?

Thank you
Stephen

> 1. Diameter of the thread or shaft of each bolt. (or an M size perhaps marked on the hexagonal head)?

Thank you.

Begging pardon, are you confident as to M13 13mm ?

My main fixing bolts appear to be 14mm and that typically corresponds to a 22mm hex head. And M13 appears to be a slightly uncommon size? Your fixings are USA supplied, are they definitely metric?

I'm going to visit my local tools and fixings trade counter. My towbar is fitted/fixed fine OK but I want to sort this "detail" ...

@Stephen You are probably right - it is not the most accurate of calipers

Hello

It's ages since I used a non-digital "vernier". Sorry but I'll spare my remnants of a brain cell.

I'm confident that M14 x 110mm is correct for the large bolts for my towbar. An opinion seriously reinforced by the proprietor of our local tools and fixings trade counter.

I think you have done the forum a favour getting the issue of these fixings clarified. Thank you.

I'm sorry I didn't have the energy to check out the fixings from my towbar ages ago. I might have been able to help you.

Stephen

I’ve got exactly the same bar on my 89 estate. It was a factory fit as the car is a one owner before me.
The bottom part is to locate a stabiliser bar. When I had my previous 82 Elddis van it came with such a stabiliser needing the slot below the ball.

@Stephen - Thanks I have updated the photo to state 14mm thread

@hennabm Thanks. I have removed the stabiliser receiver part for now as I don't plan on towing anything that big.
