Default Shocking cost of new V70

I have a 2011 MY2012 V70 Se Lux with Black paint and Dab radio, it is now 2 years old and I am starting to look at ordering my new car as I normally change cars every 2 to 3 years, however I have just been on the Volvo website to build my car the price came out at £38k, now I love Volvo's and have now had 3 in a row but this price is extreme and is higher than the E class, A4, A6 how can this be justified? Am I alone in thinking Volvo have gone a step too far, also I don't like the new dashboard and front grill it reminds me of my 2004 V70.

New cars generally are frighteningly expensive when you see the prices of ones that are a couple of years old. However it seems that one's encouraged to pay a lot of extra for features that can be ditched with no real loss. I've recently shelled out for a new a new V70 Business Edition. There are a lot of extra things that (realistically) aren't worth spending on: Do you actually want 'lane departure warning', 'cyclist detection' etc.

Having decided that I really did want (but not need) another V70, I looked at the specs & prices, & the extra niceties of the higher spec models didn't seem worth it. Be ruthless!

I do think that the current V70 interior is less refined & nice than my previous P2 V70.

I think you would have to pay £50000 for the quality of a new 2000-2007 V70 these days .

I think you wouldn't...!!!!

Crikey 50k for a Volvo 35k is bad enough...!!!!! one would have to be a die hard enthusiast to pay that - considering how much they may lose - especially V70 S80 stuff.

Regards

That's the list price, but no-one pays that or anything close to it unless they're absolutely barking.

For example, Drive The Deal are offering £11k off the top spec D5 SE LX Nav making it just under £30k

Question

But for anyone using the car for business use its the list price+options that determines the tax you pay, isn't it?

My XC70SE Geartronic was £34k list price when I bought it, but I got quite a lot of discount (it was March, and the dealer wanted to thin-down his inventory for fiscal year-end).

I ended up getting around 15% discount.

At the time, the Audi Allroad was slightly more expensive, but Audi weren't offering any proper discounting...also I much prefer the Volvo to the Audi...

15% - 20% discount is quite normal, but I agree Volvo have jacked up their list prices, I'm just coming up to 2 years ownership of my MY 2012 V70 and normally change at 3 years so doing my homework at present Merc E class and BMW 520 are far better priced at the moment for the equivalent spec. Looks like Volvo will have to ramp up the discount if they want me to run another one which would be my 8th
