Default XC70 2012 215bhp Fuel Consumption

Just an update to the XC70 2012 story, the car has done 8000 miles now and is starting to give better mpg figures.

Our car is a manual.

Towing a 1500kg caravan up to the Lake District returned 26mpg.

Long run up to Newcastle 4 up with luggage the car returned 45mpg.

This is excellent as our last volvo V70 2.4d se manual never returned better than 37mpg.

That's very good - my personal best is 44mpg in a 2009 XC70...

Currently getting around 41mpg, and it will probably get worse because MrsK is using it to commute for the rest of the month, until her new Evoque arrives

I am not getting around 5mpg less than quoted at present. Although I am not much of a fast driver, I do like to get to the required speed limit as fast as I can.

Default Getting better

My XC70 D5 (215BHP) Manual has now done 9000 miles. Have been somewhat disappointed with the fuel consumption, although I haven't been driving it too carefully! I have been averaging about 41mpg (indicated by the car display) whilst my wife has been getting about 38, although almost all her driving is local stop start journeys. I have been doing regular trips from Hatfield (Herts) to Bristol over the last couple of months. Last week had a bit of trouble getting diesel before setting off, so made a concious effort to drive economically to make it last. Kept to 65mph on the motorway. Car was indicating 52mpg for the trip when I arrived in Bristol. Spent two days doing very short stop start journeys, ferrying boxes back and forwards (helping my father move house). Then drove home. Total milage over three days was 320 miles at indicated 49.5mpg, which I was astonished at. The journeys there and back only took about 10-15 minutes longer than they normaly do and I arrived much more relaxed. I must be getting old!

I just find that this car keep getting better and better.

I drove the 88 km back and forth to my parents the other day. Was in no rush, so I skipped the motorway but used the older countryside roads instead. Max speed 90 km/h, passing five towns with 50 or 30 km/h. Well, ten towns back and forth, that is.

Car is an XC70 D5 AWD automatic 2012. Not much load, only me in the car.
Average speed during these 88 km was 69 km/h, so I wasn't driving ridicuously slow, but I did release the accelerator before roundabouts, so I could just roll through without breaking, shifted to N when waiting for passing cars etc.

Average consumption was 5.5 l/100 km.

Sound very similar to my 205 D5 AWD. I did manage 50 after a fill up, re-set and straight onto a dual A-road for about 40 miles!!

I am soon getting my S60 D5 215hp.Having read these comments gives me a good idea how mine will be.I will be towing a 1420kgs mtlp caravan so am looking forwrd to some good mpg.I am really looking forward to getting it as the test drive was a pleasure and it felt quick and sure footed even though it is not 4x4.Forgot to mention it is a geartronic so maybe not as economical as manual but we will see.

Default update

As an update to this thread I've just returned from a long trip up to Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow. A total of 653 miles brim to brim fill up with the car fully loaded, cold weather and the tyres at 36psi returned an actual figure of 42.4mpg, the onboard computer stated an average figure of 43.2mpg.

The fuel computer was showing 50 miles to empty when I refilled it.

The car has now done 20,000 miles.

Not bad for a powerful full time awd estate car.

Another update, just returned from a 440 mile round trip down to London 2 up with the cruise control set at 65mph and the fuel computer showed an average for the trip of 51mpg.
Not bad at all.
