I have had a noise like woomf woomf on the left hand side of the engine. very loud. Car in limp mode. My volvo specialist garage and my local main dealer did not know what it was. Took the car to PCW cars at Slough and they immediately diagnosed a fault with the EGR valve. They put the car on their Vida analyser/computer and sure enough the fault showed up, the culprit was the EGR solenoid. They said that it could also be the valve being stuck open. Cost of solenoid and valve approx £400 plus 1.5 hrs fitting plus VAT.
Looked on ebay when home and spoke to All Car Parts on 0121 4401313.
They are supplying a new solenoid for £68.79 incl VAT and delivery.
I am not sure whether I will fit it or let my local Volvo Specialist fit it.
Haynes makes it sound reasonably simple. Lets hope I don't need the valve as well as that is a Volvo part only.

Are you having any problems with either the EGR or DPF? If not why do you want to remove them? These whines are a damn sight more complicated than your old lump of VAG ships ballast and don't take kindly to being messed with. I'd run a mile from anyone who offers to remove either bit.

Interesting thread.

It doesn't seem uncommon for people to want to remover DPF's. Especially on 4x4's being used as work-horses (i.e. on farms). DPF's can't self-clean (regenerate) unless the vehicle is used frequently at reasonable highway speeds (some say above 40mph, some say above 50mph). If you do a lot of slow, short trips, a DPF may well give trouble.

If the DPF blocks because it's not getting it's self-clean cycle completed it can be very expensive to fix/replace.

Hence some people like to remove them. I do agree wth the original posting, there may be reasons to want to remove a DPF, so it IS (IMHO, FWIW) a reasonable request.

There are companies advertising the service, such as http://www.removemydpf.co.uk/volvo-dpf-removal/

It will almost certainly be possible.

I would imagine that in some geographies, Volvo ship vehicles without a DPF (this is quite common for vehicle manufacturers to hav SKU's for different markets).

If I were you, I would approach a few specilists, like Bell Auto Services, or http://www.removemydpf.co.uk/volvo-dpf-removal/

I think swt61 was looking for help removing his EGR to clean it.

We offer Volvo DPF removals for 1.6D, 2.0D, 2.4D and D5. These can be done here, or flashed with our Handheld unit if required.
