Volvo S40TD D4192T Engine Replacement Compatilibity
Hi folks
I have a Volvo S40 on an S Reg. The timing belt went (expectedly damaging the engine)and the car is now off the road. I have been strongly advised that the most economical fix is to replace the engine with a second hand one. Mine has a D4192T engine in it but the spares garage only has access to: a) D4192T3 b) D4192T4 Which I believe are slightly later versions of the same engine Does anyone know whether either of the two later engines listed are compatible as direct replacements for my D4192 (which I believe is referred to as a T2)? The garage does not know the answer and neither did the local Volvo main dealer. Any advice would be very gratefully received Regards Andy Jones |

are you sure yours is a D4192T2 ? More likely a T if 1999 .
The T is an old generation indirect injection diesel but does have electronic control of pump timing The T2 is a half way measure a direct injection , similar to the 850 D5252T the later T3 and T4 are different altogether , electronic common rail not at all compatible . Have you considered looking under the bonnet of a renault of similar age in a scrap yard ?

I think you're likely to be correct, the user manual says D4192 T. (it was just that someone mentioned T2 - probably bad advice)
I'll look into Renault engines of a similar age. Do you happen to know if Renault would use the same model number, ie. D4192 T or would it have been different in a Renault car? Thanks fro the advice Andy |

No the D4192T is a Volvo designation . if the Renault engine looks like yours it should do the job .. They are more plentiful than the volvo version
