Default thing on the intake manifold

what is the thing on the front of the intake manifold
it has wires going to it and a hose off the intake side of the turbo
what does it do and i want to build a custom intake do i really need the hose coming off the intake hose off the turbo thanks guys

I think the bit you mean is the over-pressure valve. It will vent any pressure in excess of (I think) 12psi and light the turbo warning lamp on the dash. Can you post a pic of it please?

There is a way of doing a 'linky' to photos but I cannot find it.

the thing draws clean air from the intake side of the turbo if that helps anybody with my delima

Yes, the correct name for it is the Charge pressure and safety (blow-off) valve. and basicily it vents any excess boost and lights a lamp on the dash in the case of excess pressure.

thanks so i shouldnt need to run the hose going to the intake side of the turbo maybe find a small filter for the end of that thing

It was designed to have the hose in place so would be worthwhile refitting it in place to maintain the system integrity. Without it you will be venting charged air and loosing performance.

venting the charge air isnt that what the thing was designed but putting it back into the intake doesnt make sence in gaining or mantaning peformance
to me but ill probably end up plumbing it back into the intake track ill post pics as soon as its done
