I wouldn't bothe buying a generic kit as there will probably be bullbs you'll never use. Not only that but there likely to be cheap quality and not last long so you will soon be replacing them. All your paying for really is some fancy packaging!

Looking at the MY09 Owners Manual on page 234 you lights are
  • Main Beam Halogen = H9
  • Dipped beam Halogen = H7
  • Main Beam Xenon = H7
  • Dipped Beam Xenon = D1S
  • Front Indicators = H21W
  • Rear Indicators = PY21W
  • Front Fog Lights = H8
  • Front Sidelights and Marker Lights W5W

Rear Tail lights and Brake lights are LED so it's a new unit if they fail, should be unlikely hopefully. Annoyingly they don't list the rear fog lights or reversing lights, both of which are housed in the Tailgate. Neither does it show you how to change them.

The rear foglight is on one side only and that annoys me. On my V40 I changed it to both sides, an easy mod and I want to do the same with my V70. I might be able to update that list when I get time to mess with taking the tailgate trim off and look at the bulbs.

Thanks for the advice. I will put my own kit together as you suggest.
I'm taking a front light unit out tomorrow so that I am familiar with the procedure to change from left to right driving setting prior to a continental holiday, and can familiarise myself with bulb changing at the same time.
Thanks again.

Well following Haynes I've just had my tailgate trim apart and I manged to break only 1 clip in the process! The bulbs for reverse and rear fog lights look as if you can only get them through Volvo, never seen the like before. I did manage to knacker one reverse bulb whilst seeing what type it is so will have a part number and price from tomorrow. I will also put a guide to changing them together some time tomorrow as well.

As for having both rear fog lights lit up, it's possible but looks costly. The hole is sealed but could easily be modified with a dremel etc. There is power for the fog light bulb going to the connecter in the tailgate (plugged the other side in to check), yet the light unit has no wire to plug a bulb into. Would require butchering another light unit or some home made wiring to make it work. Asked my local dealer for a price for a LHD tail light unit and the price was £170. Could get that down to £140-150 from Rufe or Gavin though. Still it's a tad expensive.

I removed a headlight today so that I could familiarise myself with the bulbs and changing from left to right driving. This car has Bi-Xenon bending lights. Inside I found a halogen bulb, an indicator bulb, a parking bulb, and obviously the Xenon unit. My owners manual suggests I could change a Xenon bulb, but the manual I have downloaded says I cannot. My owners manual describes changing the setting of the Xenon unit for continental driving and I found out how to do this in practice. The owners manual also describes making a lens mask, but is this necessary if the Xenon unit is set appropriately?
