S80 good value?
I am looking at a new Volvo for motorway mile munching and was hoping someone could help me with the following:
Why is the 2007MY S80 so cheap? I am looking at a d5 185bhp which is on 90k miles and is about 5k. Compared to similar money v50's or s40's it seems a real bargain...... Is there a sinister reason? Thanks Sam

S80, fastest depreciating car in the UK. Makes a good used one very good value.

Thanks.
Compared to other Volvo models the are incredibly good value. I do prefer the practicality of the V70 but the new shape are nowhere near the price of the S80. Cheers Sam

My 2007 S80 is great
I have owned a 2007 2.4D S80 since Sep 2008. Got it dirt cheap from Motorpoint with 12k miles on the clock. Auto box, full leather etc. It was an ex lease car. Now has 59k miles and still going strong. It's not a BMW for sure, but if you want a large, comfortable car which munches the miles I reckon it is great value. I get about 39 mpg overall. The 2007 model diesel engine is Euro IV compliant with the potential problems that they all have - DPF and multiple sensors going wrong etc. Check the service history, or a Volvo sticker in the engine bay which advises a reduced oil level on the dipstick, to ensure that an important recall software update was done 2009/10. That update seems vital to preventing DFP related problems. But none of those have appeared on my own car yet so I am a real fan!

I've owned three S80s now, and I just love my current 07MY D5.
We've had it about 4 months, and was purchased with 104k on the clock for around £6k. Full Volvo service history, cambelt done etc. I did consider switching to an Audi A6 or BMW 730d before sticking with Volvo. The S80 is incredibly good value for money, and cheaper than both of those two to buy and ultimately run. Never had to replace anything major due to faults, just wear and tear items - new shock absorbers are on order, but the fitted ones have been on it since new - so just brake pads and tyres. On a motorway run I've done 45MPG, but normally get 35-38 mixed country/town driving. 18k service intervals are a massive bonus too! |
