The road noise being common to the D5 would explain why there are not loads of comments coming from USA on road noise, as they do not have the D5 over there and probably have different tyres fitted as standard.

I've got a D5 Momentum with 19" wheels coming in 2 weeks (allegedly). My mate has a T6 R-Design with 20" wheels so it'll be an interesting exercise to compare the two cars on exactly the same roads.

Do you find your mate's R-Design T6 to be very noisy? (in cabin noise)

I've only been in it a couple times on short journeys as he lives in Northumberland and I'm in Yorkshire. It didn't strike me as particularly noisy other than when he floored the accelerator and the engine made itself heard. Obviously, a back-to-back test will be more revealing.

I'll take a trip up to see him after I get mine but with holidays and things it could be mid-September before we can meet.

Yesterday I tried dropping my pressures from front: 38 / 37, rear: 38 / 38 to front:35, rear: 32. Haven't noticed any improvement in road noise, if anything I think It might be worse.

That was advice from volvo , They are working with the tyre companies as quieter tyres are being developed with inserts inside ..

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but could the noise be down to the new platform (SPA)?
Just wondered, as I have owned two of the early XC90's and never experience any excessive noise.

I don't think so , the car is so uncannily quiet that you are bound to hear the noisiest source ..so that is the last thing to sort to make it quieter , much quieter ... Has anyone driven over the silent tarmac that is laid near residential areas on motorways and in towns , all tyre noise just vanishes when driving on this .( in general cars , not particularly XC90 )

Just a thought for any of us at their wits end with tyre noise and software issues:
