It depends on how corroded the discs are , a drive around the block is the first stage , the pads will scrape off any light rust , but you will probably get vibration from the brakes , lots of light braking in using it for a few weeks may help . OR take the calipers and disks off and use some emery cloth to rub the rust off then try again . You may end up having to buy 4 new brake discs ..

Did you leave it parked with the handbrake left on?

C70 wheels stuck
Many thanks for replies and advice. Will be putting in new battery this weekend and see what happens - it had a full service before parking up so hopefully brakes are ok. Sad to say Im a typical female driver and know very little of the technical side of things! It usually drives like a dream when coming out again but the main problem is that on starting the back wheels refuse to budge straight away and i dont know if im damaging it further. Need to get it to garage for mot.

Well if you did leave it parked with your hand brake on, then the handbrake will be seized and won't necessary come free when you start the car, as mine seized up after being left on for a month.

gently accelerate and the rear wheels will free off but you might need new handbrake shoes mine did this the other month after 3 months of being parked up

Hello,
I was dragging the rear wheels when I accidentally left the handbrake on with the car parked up for an extended period.. So I tried reverse, make sure it's clear behind, and I built up the revs and then BANG, the shoes came unstuck. Gentle forward and backward action may free it up for you hopefully. Cheers |

And Hazel, don't worry about doing damage to the car, as worst case is you need new handbrake shoes (as Thanatos mentioned) its no major problem!
Just remember next time leave it parked in gear. |
