Default Volvo 240 Stutters Under Acceleration.

Hello
Could anyone help me with a problem with my 1992 Volvo 240 SE.
Under load / acceleration the engine repeatedly stutters and loses power but then quickly picks up again. It will do this hot or cold and makes driving very difficult.
Has anyone else come across this problem before ?
I have changed out many parts in a quest to resolve this issue, but still have not found the solution. If anyone could advise me I would be most grateful.
Many thanks.

Do you have a rotor arm on that model?
Go for the simple things first:~
The above particularly some brands aren't very good- Beru-Bosch or similar are fine.
Bob.

Hi,

In case you aren’t aware/haven’t read the codes before, if the lambda light on the dash is illuminated, that indicates that there are fault codes waiting in the system to be read.

The instructions of how to do so are here:

And this video is pretty good:

Otherwise- which parts have you replaced already? Have you checked the distributor cap and rotor arm as suggested above?

Cheers

Hello.
Thank you for your replies.
I have put a plenty of new parts upon my Volvo. These include rotor arm ,dizzy cap, plugs, plug leads, fuel filter, fuel pump relay.
The fault codes were reading
214 RPM signal missing. Cleared but has now come back
212 Lambda sensor missing signal. Cleared.
Now showing 232 Lambda control too lean or rich at idle. Now cleared.
Strangely the car is now driving and pulling much better since clearing the codes. Not sure why. The lambda light flickers on and off occasionally whilst driving.
If anyone could offer any further advise,I would be most grateful.
Thank you

Once you've wlminated everything else check that the cat isn't starting to collapse internally.

I had similar issues, changed similar parts. The RPM signal missing may well be your Crank Position Sensor, cheap enough to replace and can be done from above, some say easier from below but all by feel and a 10mm spanner. Myine was solve with a new (used, known good) Mass Airflow Sensor from a 740. Runs a treat now

Default Crankshaft Sensor Removal.

Hello.
Thank you for your replies.
My mechanic has tried to remove the old crankshaft sensor ,but it is stuck fast.
I think this maybe the original to the car and will not budge.
Does anyone have any thoughts as to how this could be extracted ?
Many thanks.

Trying soaking it in Plus-gas and leaving overnight. It is the sensor itself stuck in the housing, not the bolt rusted tight?

Apart from that, I think the only option is to withdraw the gearbox and hit or break the plastic from inside the bell housing.
