V70R Bearing noise? / How to disengage AWD
Hi All,
I'm currently tracking down a bearing noise. I plan to jack up the front wheels and put it in gear. However, the car is AWD. I've read that pulling on the handbrake will disengage the rear wheels, but wanted to verify this before I discover that it doesn't by putting an axle stand through the floor. Anyone got any pointers? Thanks

Manual ? Lift the front end with the engine off, put it in gear and see if you can spin a front wheel. https://youtu.be/NfBahSLLUWA
At 90k km I would be surprised for a wheel bearing. An older tire or off alignment can cause a similar noise. If you can find a patch of new asphalt that is a very good test of a tire vs bearing noise

Auto. I don't have anywhere level to jack the car up so wouldn't be comfortable lifting all 4 wheels up hence why I'm only jacking the front.

You may want to wear headphones to hear it. It's the pulsating/"chuffing" noise. Only happens between 20-45~mph when accelerating even with the tiniest amount of throttle. Noise stops completely as soon as you let off the pedal. The frequency of the pulsating follows road speed, not engine rpm. You can kinda feel the pulsating in the steering wheel Sounds like it's coming from deep within the front of the car. G'box fluid was changed about 5000 miles ago, engine oil about 100 miles ago.
