I think my next set of tyres will be general grabbers or in that price range...goodyear wranglers?
Anyone tried avon/cooper zeons? Last edited by bobdabuilda; Oct 24th, 2013 at 17:46. |

Lovin my Grabbers but haven't been more than 50mph yet. I'm hoping they're as good at motorway speeds as they are at lower speeds. Perhaps a change in tyre pressure will be required for higher speeds ...

Subbing on this thread.
Have Pirelli PZero Rosso's on mine, agree with high wear rate, bad tramlining too. Had Rosso's on my old XC90, found the same. Changed to Grabber UHPs. Thinking of Vredestein Wintrac Extreme's for winter. http://www.oponeo.co.uk/tyre-details...0-r19-107-v-xl Or Grabber ATs. http://www.oponeo.co.uk/tyre-details...07-h-xl-fr-bsw Can't decide.

I have always been a fan of Contis - even more so when I wasn't paying for them!
I find Avons a good all rounder for the price. They seem to just be a tad above budget crap in price, yet a far way away price wise from premium brands, so basically around 40% cheaper! Even Avon summer tyres (which I have on the s40) are 'ok' even in the snow. Put it this way the s40 2wd with Avons was 50% better in last years snow than the XC60 AWD with Pirelli Zeros! I was slipping and sliding in the XC, with the back end coming round all the time at the slightest tickle on the accelerator. The XC was downright dangerous imo with Pirellis.... and I am not impressed with the Pirellis under normal driving conditions - PLUS - they are expensive!! Regards |

We all have different experiences I guess, my S60 came with Pirelli ContiSport 3 on them, 4 years old, worst tyres ever. Loud and no grip, yet no cracking to suggest age is the culprit.
My wifes Saab came with 4 Contis on, again very loud and poor grip, 2 of them were only 4 years old too, but this time were cracked to buggery. My 528i came with pirellis on the front that were awful, lack of confidence, matched back tyres that were Avon ZZ3s and the front was much better. I had Pirellis Rossos put on the back of the ST220 as ATS had nothing else that blew my skirt up, and as they had just discovered the previous ones were worn to the carcass on the inside, I couldn't leave it find better options. They were loud and offered no positive feeling of grip, certainly not matching the ZZ3s on the front. And now the Vredesteins Ultra Sessanta just fitted on the S60, brilliant, loads of grip wet and dry, and considering they still running in I am very happy, next month the final two ContiSport 3s will go too. My experience of Pirelli has been woeful, and given F1s woeful tyre year, I can't see me ever having pirellis again, given the choice. |

Ref Pirellis:- If the Pirellis offer shocking performance on an XC60, it is more than also a guarantee that they will be similar on the 90..!! GENERALLY speaking Pirellis are NOT favoured by many on the forums on any of their Volvos Regards |

I have just bought a xc90 and it came with 4 decent pirelli scorpians on,
Now am not a big fan of pirelli's as a set nearly on my s40 nearly put me in a ditch, but i have to say am really impressed with these scorpians on xc90 and they even don't grumble towing my car trailer out of my friends muddy farm yard. There a tad noisy on motorway and ive got a slight vibration but think wheels need rebalancing and i run them at 40psi to try and reduce shoulder wear
