Default Volvo P1800 Rock/stone guards information

Were the rear stone/rock guards available as an optional extra in 1966 ?

I know it was a bizarre question but weighing up if its worth putting them on ?

and could tell me the original UK purchase price in 1966 for a P1800S that would be great.

Thanks

Clive,
Not sure about Jensen models but standard fitting on your year. I don't know if they serve any purpose.
I put new ones on mine but stuck them on with double sided tape to save drilling the wing edge.
This area is obviously prone to rust .
I used plastic rivits heads to fill the holes and cut them back, superglued them in.
They look ok.
Hopefully they should stay on. Time will tell.

Clive,
I used tape similar to the type for sticking number plates on. I don't know what make, it's dark green and on a roll. About 1/2" wide.. Another advantage , fit near the edge and it holds the guard tight against the body and prevents ingress of water..

Try it, nothing lost.

If i remember correctly the purchase price new was 2950 Dollars. The monies were transferred to Volvo AB in US dollars regardless of country via your bank and the car was then built according to your specifications.

Hi
Don't know about 1966 but mine was purchased on 2 November 1967 from Olaf Olsen, Huddersfield by W & E Crowther (Woollen Manufacturers), Slaithwaite, Huddersfield. The company accounts (luckily found in Leeds University) state the total price was £1684.16 and 10d. Assume this will include all taxes! Mr Crowther must have liked the car as he didn't part with it until the mill closed in 1976 when I think he was into his 70's

Cheers
Andrew
