Default Geartronic swap

Hi all,
i am coming to a situation with the old V70 where i thought the box would keep chugging on to a point now i think one day its going to loose drive, starting to slip on most gears, just like a slippy clutch on a manual. Story is she got to 236000 without a fluid change, (when i bought her). It was black and burnt
Well, ive changed the fluid twice to no avail. As this is my second car that i use for work i am thinking a god second hand unit is the cheapest option.

Question is will the replacement box need to go to Volvo to be programmed or will my VIDA sort this?

Thank you all

No, if you retain the TCM which is on top of the box. You really really should reset the adaptation memory however and that needs VIDA (but not a dealer copy). It might be that you can also swap the TCM but I've not personally done that.

FYI sounds more likely you have torque converter issues so make sure you get that as part of any used gearbox you buy.

Tannaton, i have a copy of VIDA, so resetting the adaptations should not be a problem, So i should keep my original TCM and put this on my replacement box? Cool stuff, my donor has 80k on the clock so should be fine! hopefully.
Cheers for the reply bud

I would keep the TCM, and that's what I've done on a few gearbox swaps over the years without issue.

Sorry to highjack, but here's a thought...if I swapped a TCM from a post '09 box with Sport mode, to a pre-09 box without, would this equip the old box with Sport mode?

Potentially - but there's a big risk around compatibility of software versions and interaction with other modules - for example the DIM is different with the illuminated "S" symbol.

Thanks Tannaton. I wonder if Doxy's donor box is post 09? We may be about to find out if this works.
