Default any experience with sorting rusty rims on steels

Hi all...great to be back in 240 land!!...This has been bothering me for a while now but have any of you had any experience with sorting tyre to rim seals..the reason i ask is because a recently new fitted tyre still is losing air albeit very slow and i am convinced its leaking on the rim..is it possible to sort out rim with the trye deflated but still on the wheel?..cheers hj.

So far I only have seen tyres that leak around the valve stems, deflating and turning the stem in it's hole with a bit of silicone spray works OK.
You can detect leaks with a bit of water. Deflating the tyre will not create a lot of space between tyre and rim, but you can get a screwdriver in between and scrape off rusty bits.

Fit a tube if you can't get a decent seal round the rim.

Thanks chaps..all good advice..The reason i think the wheel is at fault is because the old tyre had exactly the same behaviour and was changed on advice from tyre place...I"ll try as suggested and if all else fails stick a tube in..thanks hj.

If you're on steelies, can't you just get another wheel from the scrappy? It would only cost you about a tenner with a tyre on it.

If you call at your local tyre depot ans explain your situation they do have a substance specially developed for sealing tyre rims or if you want a cheap fix , wire brush the rim them paint with black bitumen before re-inflating the tyre.

+1 on Stevo48' reply. I've had this problem before HJ. Tho' only on alloys. On my T5 & funnily enough on my current 850 which has T5 alloys on it!

25€ here for the place to remove the tyre, clean the rim & put on some (Tekky mode-on) 'goey black stuff' (Tekky mode-off) & refit - all well since. (This tyre was originally fitted in Jersey).

On my T5 I dropped in at a Hi-Q tyre centre, they had not fitted the tyre but did the same as above & did not charge me a penny

Not heard of this ever being an issue on steelies, but cannot see why it could'nt happen.

Good Luck HJ.
