Default Alarm: lights no longer flash

Hi all, my S40 is no longer doing the 'signal flash' when I lock or unlock the car.
I'm assuming that the 'signal flash' is alarm related. The red dash light flashes away, as normal when the car is locked. I have checked the bonnet catch and can force the alarm by popping the bonnet from inside the car when the motion sensors are off. I've triggered the alarm by opening the drivers door with the key blade, so the alarm does seem to be arming when I lock the car.
I just want the flash to come back so I know all is well.
Any thoughts are much appreciated
cheers

Given that it all seems to be working properly, I know this might sound a silly suggestion, but you haven't accidentally changed the settings on the car menu, have you?

The light flash both when arming and disarming can be switched on or off there - at least, it can on my 56 C70, (because I wondered when I bought it why I had no light flash and found the settings) and I imagine your S40 would be the same...
