Morning folks -

Recently bought a super duper V40 2.0 auto SE and I'd love to know if it's a phase 2 or not. How do I tell?
It was first registered 30/3/01 on a 'Y' plate. Anyone know?
Thanks in advance. Cheers, Sarumboy

X and Y reg's are the start of phase 2. Easiest way to confirm is the black strips in the front bumper, if there at the corners only its phase 2 and if its all the way across thefront of the car it's phase 1.

I have seen a few 'phase 1.5' cars in the crossover years where some parts are phase 1 and some are phase 2. perhaps post up some photos

Hi Sarumboy

Yours is definitely in that crossover period...

Confirming or eliminating Phase 1 is quite easy - where are the electric window/mirror switches? If the "master" switch panel is in the driver's door it's a Phase 2, if in the centre it's a Phase 1.

Is there an "airmix" control immediately under the hazard warning switch between the centre vents? If yes, Phase 1, if blank there, Phase 2.

I think - but happily stand corrected if others know better - that Phase 1.5's were still basically Phase 1's with a few of the later bits added (engine differences mainly).

If you could put up a couple of photos that would help no end!

Hi -

Sorry for the delay in replying guys, been away.

Anyway, thank you for the help. I now know it's a phase 2. Window/mirror switches are in the drivers door and there is no 'airmix' control in the centre. Bumper strips as you said.

Must say I love the car. That's praise indeed having just sold on my 440 which I'd had for 16 years. Just need to sort out a couple of small niggles, lamps blown on dash, slight leak into spare wheel well etc. Here's to the next 16 years!!

Thanks again guys and Merry Christmas.

Yeah the bulbs blown behind the dash is a common issue and I think the leak into the spare wheel well might be something to do with the rear spoiler seals.
