Default Speed Sensor Replacement

Hi all,

In an effort to fix one of the dash lights (!) I'm going to replace the front left speed sensor, as someone on here mentioned that's where the Speedo takes it's signal from.

The question is, they range from £16 to over £100, I don't want to go too cheap but I also don't want to break the bank. OEM is £88.

Could anyone recommend one from this list?

Thanks in advance.

Prior taking the old unit out I would clean the seating area as best you can:~

They can be difficult to remove due to rust & dirt etc- some preparation should help by using releasing fluid well before the real work starts.
On my '97 V70 I had to do the above and tap the fitting from side to side carefully to loosen the sensor spigot from the hole.
Fit the new one with a coating of copper slip.

I generally go for middle ground pricing/recommendations rather than heavily inflated dealer rates that are bought in items.

Are you sure the sensor is at fault? The ABS module & dry joints (well covered in this forum) can be problematic- the reluctor rings should also be checked, quite straight forward fix.
Good Luck.
Bob.

what exactly are your symptoms ? which dash light is faulty , is the speedo working ? Do you have any ABS fault codes ?

Just get the proper sensor from Volvo IF you need one , if you want a trouble free life :-)

Thanks for the help and advice, When I bought the car a few months ago it had the 720A and 510F codes. I've seen the dry solder joints in the ABS module mentioned a few times on here, kind of putting it off to be honest!. The check engine and ABS lights come off and on intermittently, whenever the red (!) light comes on, the speedo and trip fail. When the (!) light goes off, the speedo and trip return to life.

I'm having to replace the expansion tank and sensor this week so an OEM speed sensor will have to wait till next week. How fast were you going? No idea officer...

Thanks again

ABS Module:~
If the above needs to be looked at after your other repairs I wouldn't be too afraid of tackling it- They are quite straight forward and following the already published forum advice you should be fine.

A couple of easy guides regarding removing the cover & holding clips is included (see my post) no need to butcher the thing and be disappointed with your efforts.
If unsure about soldering then have a practice on some spare wire but again nothing magical here.
Good luck.
Bob.

if you have access to vida/dice it's worth having a drive around with a laptop, you can see the speed from each wheel before you replace something unnecessarily.
i had an issue with my abs module a few years ago which was symptomatic of dry joints but not the problem at all. i seem to remember being able to unplug one of the sensors and speedo still worked, it only killed the speedo with a bad signal, not no signal. i suppose it can't tell which wheel speed to believe if one of two is wrong instead on only one.
