Top Centre Dash Extra Instrument Pod
Hello,
I wonder if anyone has fitted aand wired up one of these instrument panels? My car - '88 240 GL - has the radio fitted in the panel below the heater controls, so the top panel has a sort of open glovebox infill, and I can't even see how I can get that out without breaking something. The instrument panel has Vacuum, Oil pressure, and Voltmeter gauges. I have searched the Haynes and Autodata manuals and can't find any reference to it at all, not even in the wiring diagrams. All and any help to get this instrument panel fitted properly without breaking the dash would be most welcome. Thanks for reading/helping . . . |

>Hello again, Could someone please lend some help on this topic - or is this the sort of nightmare best farmed out to an auto electrician? RE: Top Centre Dash Extra Instrument Pod
Hi, don't often look on the 240 forum as I have moved through a 740 and now have an 850Tdi!! I did fit the xtra instruments to my 240GLT about 8+ years ago and have hazy memories!! Wiring was not a big problem as there is plenty to choose from behind the dash. Vacuum gauge requires a rubber tube and fits onto a brass adaptor which replaces a plug in the intake manifold, the oil pressure sender replaces the oil pressure switch OR there was a brass 'T' piece available which let you refit the original switch as well. As far as removing the little box- I'm fairly sure that it was held in with clips (part of the moulding) and pulled straight out with a bit of carefull wiggling! If you can get your hand up behind it you may be able to push it out more easily. I had a fourth instrument, I think a outside air temperature as well which fitted in the single panel next to the box. In fact I still have all, or most of these items if anyone is interested?
If you need any more info, post back or e-mail me and I'll try and help. Jim |

To remove the top storage area on the dash you have to carefully prise off the square clock surround, under this you will find the two screws that hold the storage tray in place, then just 'wiggle' and pull it out at the same time. The same screws/holes are used to hold the instrument panel in place.
Give a shout if you need any more help. Kevin. |
