Starting Problems - Not Ignition (I think)??
My 1988 Volvo 340 GLE 1.7 (205,000miles) has just started to suffer from a starting problem. I believe it could be a problem with the ignition relay?? when I can get the engine to turn over it starts fine.
From moving the key from position 1 to 2 to start the engine nothing happens. Could the ignition relay be at fault? Please could anyone advise on parts required / cost and ease of fitment - i.e. can I D.I.Y, Many thanks in advance Rob Davies |

RE: Starting Problems - Not Ignition (I think)??
Check the connections on the back of the ignition switch with a voltmeter to see if 12V is being switched to the starter solenoid wire when key is turned to 2. If yes then check on the solenoid operating wire (small one) that the 12V is getting there. If it is then check that the motor fixing bolts are tight and that the engine earth strap is making a good contact. If this is OK then you have a duff solenoid which means a replacement starter motor which comes with solenoid as part of it. If 12V leaves the switch but does not reach the solenoid then there is a broken connection along that wire. All the best, Peter |
