Default TV tuner - not in the uk

I can see that the TV tuner is available in most European markets but not in the United Kingdom. I have this in my xc60 and wanted it in my 90. Does anyone know why this can't be specified and isn't an option?

I did inquire a while ago and was told it was not an available option. Seemed rather strange.

I suppose the availability of sky go and limitless data plans has made terrestrial TV slightly redundant in a car.

I love the TV in my XC60, great when waiting for a train, stuck on the m25 or entertaining the children at stops or in the rain. It's available pretty much everywhere but the UK, very strange as it's a quick buck for Volvo...

Perhaps Volvo calculated that it wasn't worth investing in a tuner that'd be specific to the UK market as I guess they sell very few and (I think) much of Europe uses MPEG4 compression for all digital TV transmissions whereas the UK uses MPEG2 for terrestrial SD.

possibly but all TV's (the big ones) are standard across Europe, you just choose the country at setup.

Quite.
All of Europe also have the steering wheel on the wrong side yet they manage to rectify that for the UK market.
If it's cost effective to have two cockpit orientations, they must be able to organise a piddly TV tuner.
