Default Price increases - will they stay this time?

Just compared the price of a plug-in XC60 Ultra (MY2025) with an Ultimate (MY2024). The specs are identical, only the name has changed, but the Ultra is nearly £6k more due to the offer price being much less generous. Same applies to the XC90 but with a £5k increase. I noticed too that most of the XC60 Ultras that are scheduled for production have 21" wheels. Why oh why...

Glad I didn't cancel my order from last Sept as the car would now cost over £8k more.

Examples attached.

I’ve not looked at the XC60 but on the XC90 “stock” models those prices shown for the 2024 vs 2025 MY ones are confusing. If you click on either and begin the order process (this is using PCP to buy) the same finance deposit contribution (£9k for the XC90) is applied to each - so the price when you go to order is the same for a 2024 Ultimate and a 2025 Ultra. I suspect the same might be true for the XC60.

Tried this for the XC60 and if you go through the order process it applies a larger discount to an Ultra if you select a finance option rather than outright purchase. Choose an Ultimate and the same (large) discount is applied to all purchase methods. Choose outright purchase of an Ultra and a smaller discount is applied.

So if you want to purchase outright (as I did my XC90), ordering an Ultimate is ~£5k cheaper than an Ultra right now.

Well there’s logic for you. Buy on PCP and they cost the same, buy outright and you pay more for the (identical) 2025 MY. Bizarre.

fairly typical to get a finance contribution when you take PCP, its from the finance company rather than manufacturer.

If wanting to purchase outright, you could be clever and go through the whole order process to purchase using the PCP option to get the bigger discount and after collection of the car, pay it off in full within the 14 day cooling off period to keep the larger discount, any additional perks that may have been offered (free servicing etc) and have no interest fee's incurred as you pay off before the finance period actually starts.
Play the game and reap the rewards.

Agreed, but the point here is that if you buy the identical 2024 MY outright as opposed to on PCP, you still get £9k off vs a much smaller saving if you buy the 2025 MY. I could understand it if there was a facelift or spec changes for the 2025 car, but they’re the same.

Is that not just Volvo wanting to shift any remaining MY24 versus 25?

Whether they're identical or not doesn't matter. Just like reg year changes.

I'm not sure Volvo can charge more and sell meaningful volume tbh. It'll be interesting to see how the EX90 does after "new shiny" wears off. I suspect discounts will be coming. Assuming it ever actually happens 😁
