Default Sensible smartphone holder ?

With luck the really well rated bluetooth dongle Ive read about on this forum will arrive by this weekend and Ive done a HU out before so it should not take long to fit etc .

But I have a issue with Phone holders !! I like using only Google maps and Ive searched around for a nice easy to use holder that will hold the phone straight and in a impact . Brodit and all other makes I have explored .But whats this obsession with blocking the air vents or the CD slot etc ! .I hate screen mounted ones . JUst fancy the idea of a simple angled bracket like Brodit do that slots behind the top of the centre dash and had a cradle on it that allows me to see the screen but not to hinder vents or warning light etc .

Any ideas ?

Never had a problem with the vent mounted holder I use and if anything, helps keep the phone cool in the summer.
Orientated vertically, the phone takes up even less space on the vent and the climate system maintains a comfortable temperature all year round.

I just use one of them magnetic ones, half goes on the back of your phone/case and the other I've got stuck on the retractable cup holder next the the head unit. Never had a problem with it it doesn't block anything and it was £3 of ebay.

I love my SP Connect phone case and holder. The 3M adhesive mount is perfect on the trim top right of the centre air vent, and it's perfectly placed for portrait or landscape nav on the smartphone. Expensive but really worth it.

This sync wire is the best one I’ve ever used. Sticky pad above the vent, auto adjusts to any size phone.

I ended up buying a Scosche super strong magnet thing that attaches by a 3M sticky pad to the edge of the dash above the vents .This allows full access to the vents, and the hazard light switch .Also a slight better "straight ahead " view when using Google maps.

A friend lent me their lovely car with built in apple play etc . Great until you needed to look down to see the screen as it was at double din height !

this is the only issue with the touchscreen option.. but in fairness navigation speaks to you anyway, or it's a brief glance at most to see the distance to next turn, and everything is voice command.. so you don't really spend a lot of time looking other than when you're using the reversing camera

it could do to be higher but that's the price you pay with a car made before it was commonplace to have screens in cars I suppose

the one screen option they did offer was well placed visually but way too far away to touch
